The Uttar Pradesh (UP) state government has revised pay scales of all those working with the Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad and Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. They will get the new pay scales as recommended by the University Grants Commission or at par with their counterparts working with the IIT/IIM.

The decision would cover teachers as well as those working in the administrative and library sections of above mentioned institutions. By another decision, the cabinet also approved the proposal to revise the fixed salary of medical teachers such as lecturers /assistant professors, associate professors and professors appointed on contract basis in all the government allopathic medical colleges and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, Lucknow.
The cabinet also decided to extend the benefits of the 6th pay commission to the officers/employees of the UP state warehousing corporation.

The UP government on Friday approved revised payscales for state university teachers/librarians and their counterparts working in government and government-aided PG/degree colleges in the state with retrospective effect from January 1, 2006.

Around 18,000 teachers and librarians stand to gain by the decision in 12 state universities and nearly 500 government and government-aided PG/degree colleges. The issue was pending since long for state government's consideration. Earlier, the teachers had launched joint agitation over the issue resulting in delay in the university examinations this year.

These new pay-scales will be given in accordance to the recommendations of the Chadda Commission set up at the behest of the University Grants' Commission. In a way, it is comparable to that of the Sixth Pay Commission set up by the Centre for its employees and the recommendations of which were subsequently accepted by the state government.

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give revised pay scale to the employees of seven state owned corporations, including UP Project Corporation and Samaj Kalyan Nirman Nigam from January this year. A decision to this effect was taken by the state cabinet with the condition that the financial burden would be borne by the respective corporations themselves.

Other corporations that would benefit from this decision are UP Seed Development Corporation, UP State bridge Corporation, UP Development System Corporation, UP State Industrial Development Corporation and UP Jal Nigam.
The cabinet also decided to give revised pay scale at per the 5th pay commission recommendations to PICUP and Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority with the same condition that they would bear the financial burden.
