On Saturday evening, after the two opening matches, fans will be treated to what looks to be an entertaining opening ceremony, which will include fireworks, acrobats, fire dancers and the rock group Snow Patrol, famous for hits such as Chasing Cars, Run and Signal Fire.
The second edition of the IPL was moved out of India last month due to security concerns and logical issues surrounding the general elections currently being held in that country.
South Africa has met the challenge of staging a prestigious tournament at short notice. For a country so recently a pariah it is quite something to offer to hold a competition of this scale at the drop of a hat. Others tried to get the gig but South Africa alone had the right credentials.
The second edition of the Indian Premier league (IPL) starts today 18-04-2009 in south africa. The First match is between Mumbai Indians and Chennai super kings.
