Down gradation of EDSOs in Postal Department

Posted by binu P Friday, July 30, 2010

Loss of Postal Index Numbers by Kerala:

Downgradation of edso-india_post- Consequent upon the Implementation of the recommendation of the One –man Committee constituted by Government on extra departmental system in the Department of Posts, 463 Extra Departmental Sub-Offices (EDSOs) functioning in Kerala Circle were downgraded to the status of Extra Departmental Branch Offices (EDBOs) and placed under the account jurisdiction of Departmental Sub-Offices in 2009-10 and 2010-11. No EDSO has been merged.

4 EDSOs have been upgraded to the status of Departmental Sub Offices. Out of 463 EDSOs, 7 are non-delivery EDSO with no separate Postal Index Number.

Due to down gradation of these EDBOs, 456 Pin Codes assigned to these EDSOs have been withdrawn, but they carry the Pin Code of their parent Departmental Sub –Office. Public access to the Postal Services has not been curtailed due to the change in status of the EDSOs, since the range of services provided by EDSOs and EDBOs is similar. Other Circles have also implemented the One-man Committee recommendation. A total of 2009 EDSO have been downgraded in all the Circles. The Circle-wise position is given in the Following link.
