New Delhi: Central government employees unions expressed unhappiness over the Modi government’s inordinate delay in pay hike.
The unions leaders sought the FM Arun Jaitley’s intervention in the pay hike issue.
It seems that a strong sense of resentment is growing among 4.8 million central government employees and 5.5 million pensioners over minimum pay hike beyond the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Several media reports say Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had promised on June 30, 2016 to raise minimum pay of the central government employees, but the government has failed to implement pay hike till date.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the National Anomaly Committee (NAC), which has been formed to look into the pay irregularities arising out of the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendations, the unions leaders sought the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s intervention in the issue.
Central government employees unions, have pointed out that even one year passed after the formation of the NAC still NAC could not conclude pay hike report.
The NAC is making all efforts to meet last month, which was postponed.
“Even after four months of implementation of the revised allowances, we are still awaiting a nod from the government for getting pay hike,” a leader of employees unions said.
However, media reports say, NAC is going to suggest minimum pay Rs 21,000 from Rs 18,000 with fitment factor 3.00 from the existing 2.57 but unions are demanding for hiking minimum pay Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000 and they are pressurizing to raise fitment factor 3.68 times from 2.57 times.
The economic experts are worried about the GST and note ban’s effect on exchequer. If such a situation is not chaos, then how is government going to hike minimum pay Rs 21,000?
However, the issue of hike in minimum pay for central government employees beyond the pay commission recommendations is likely to be taken up by the Union Cabinet in January after the completion of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assemblies’ poll process, according to media reports.
If fitment formula is tinkered with 3.00, the salary and pension in general for all segments of employees will go up.
The Union Cabinet on June 29, 2016 had approved recommendations of the 7th Pay commission and gave nod minimum pay from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000 per month as well as fitment factor of pay fixation uniformly was approved 2.57 times of basic pay of sixth pay commission for all central government employees.
