Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken long with hundreds of Congress workers, government employees, teachers and other employees sat on a daylong dharna at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, demanding the immediate merger of the Dearnee Allowance (DA) with the basic salary.

Maken warned that the Congress will fight for the rights of the Central government employees.
“Whenever the BJP-led NDA government came to power, it has acted against the interests of the Central government employees,” said Maken.
Maken claimed that his party has always protected the interests of the Central government employees. Congress had constituted pay commissions for Central government employees in 1953,1963, 1973, 1983 and 1993.
The BJP government had not only failed to constitute the Sixth Pay Commission due in 2003, but also tried to cut corners in the payment of dearness allowance to the employees, which was never more than one or two per cent, he added.
