The government is actively considering raising the retirement age of all central government employees, including those in the armed forces, from the present 60 to 62 years.
Interestingly, the government conducted a similar exercise last year but shelved the idea, largely because of fears that a higher retirement age would adversely impact employment generation and create resentment in the bureaucracy because of blocked promotional avenues. At that time, it was the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) that was asked by the PMO to study the issue and prepare a report.
This year, the finance ministry has come into the picture because of the urgent need to create resources as the government prepares a contingency plan to tackle the fallout of the countrywide drought.
One of the strongest arguments in favour of raising the retirement age is immediate savings for the government in terms of gratuity and pension payments over the next two years. With some 1.5 lakh employees expected to retire in this period, the savings are estimated to be in the region of Rs15,000-20,000 crore.
The Sixth Pay Commission has hugely inflated the government's salary bill, including expenditure on pension. The allocation for pension in the 2009-10 Union budget alone is Rs34,980.35 crore, a 40% increase over last year.
The DoPT, which is the nodal ministry for all administrative decisions related to the bureaucracy, has not come into the picture yet since the move is still at a very preliminary stage. But it is believed to have unofficially conveyed its views about the likely negative impact on the morale of the bureaucracy.
f the decision is finally taken, it will only be the third time the government will have raised the retirement age. Jawaharlal Nehru was the first prime minister to have increased the age of superannuation from 55 to 58 following the 1962 war with China. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government did it a second time in 1998.

No retirement means no vacancy.what the unemployed youth will do?Think twice before implementing these foolish ideas.Try to reduce unnecessary expenditures of hard earned public exchequer by closing down the departments/organisations which are useless/ineffective.
Please do not increase the retirement age. these employees can do the same work efficiently at 1/4 of current salary after retirement. govt is already paying them hell lot for nothing. retire them as quickly as possible. bring the young blood. Thanks!
"Government rise Retirement age to 62".As school teacher can do 62 or 65, I think central govt are also fit for 62. Mainly if it is done, economics crises can also solved in present situation of the country. Whatever decision taken, be early and consider.

retirement age should increase from 60to62 and this is the right time to do it
retirement age should increase from 60to62 and this is the right time to do it
Increase in retirement age will not be a good decision if implemented. Govt is already paying them sufficient amount in comparision to private companies, where one is answerable also., whereas in Govt. job, there is no restriction of timing even. Young blood have young thinking, atleast give them chance.Thanks.
bt dis is modern world..ppl remain young..their notions r also very developed..increaase in age of superannuation to 62 doesnt hamper da carrers of da unemployed much..those who have this bloody notions in their mind..so concerne officials are requested to increase da age of superannuation to 62 for the benefits of the government servants..m assure that this wont affect their services....

Dear Prime Minister,
The retirement age of Central Govt. Employees should be 60 only. It should not be 62 as other persons or our new genetations should also get the chance to work. Secondly, in Central govt. once the person is new he/she works sincerely for 2 years till the probation period only. Once it gets clear later on they do not work. Because they say I am senoir i will not work this the real fact of almost all of the cental govt. employees . Hence i strongly suggest you not to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62 as people do not work. Kindly consder the request.
Priya
Dear Prime minister,
The retirement age of central govt employees should be increased to 62.Present youth have no ideas to join govt job as they can earn alot in IT offices. The senior officers are trained and efficient to handle situations. Due to medical advancement they possess good health also.Pl do consider the retirement age increase. They will do the bast.Govt dont need to spend more on new comers.
kindly increase the retirement age to 62-65.
As people life expectancy has increased drastically and retirement age in developed nations are 62-65, kindly consider this please.
It will save lot of Govt Exchequer for the benefit of the country. Presently Japan Dissaster need some help from India. It may serve the purpose, similarly we have to cater funds for more security for our Nucler tech.
On behalf of youth of India, I request the central government not to increase the retirement age to 62 years which will impact employment generation. Already due to technological development and outsourcing of jobs there are no proper vacancies in the central government and if this foolish proposal is implemented it will harm the entire nation in many ways and it is reliably learnt that who ever post a comment to increase the retirement age are the persons who are serving and who wants to enjoy themselves and their families only to enjoy the benefits of a central government and they doesn't bother about unemployed youth and before requesting government to increased the retirement age they should think about children who are unemployed and the last but not least is the persons who are requesting to increase the retirement age belongs to category 'No work full pay". Hence ,i once again appeal to central government not to increase the reitrement age and the burden on exchequer due to payment of gratuity etc., for the next two years can be solved by limiting corruption which is prevailing very amply in the country and implementing the schemes effectively and not to take-up projects which will hinder the development for example spending 1200 crores on aadhar project is useless in today scenario.
I am requesting to the central government not to increase retirement age from 60 to 62 years which will impact employment for youth of India. Due to technological development electronics field no vacancies in the central government. However, if this foolish proposal is implemented, it will harmful for nation and also supply fuel to increase unemployment. Those who, are serving and posting comments to increase the retirement age, they wants to enjoy themselves and their families only to enjoy the benefits of central government and they doesn't bother about unemployed . I am also requesting government not to increase the retirement age. They should think again and again about youth mass who are unemployed. Hence, I once again appeal to central government not to increase the retirement age for the next two years.
Prema
This will be very unfortunate decision particularly from PM who is taking this decision only to favour some bureaucrats without taking into consideration of lower bureaucracy and efficiency. One side he want to make responsible the bureaucracy. On contrary to that increasing age limit. Definitely it is very unfortunate even to reconsider the denial proposal.
Dear Prime mimister Sir ,
For the betterment of the Nation the Age of retirement should be increased to 62 years to bring the discipline, Law and order and Tranperency.
1.Teachers at 65 leading to 70.
2.Scientific officers and A Grade officers at 62.
3.Others at 60. Definitely it will heart the people who retires at 60 years. So pl Give justice to the people and make 62 years as retirement.Every body will be quite happy . The Govt. should win the hearts of the people of the NATION... This may help to contol the citizen of the country JAIHIND
